I wish I knew how this turned out! And who took the picture? Just before both horses bolted!? I hope it wasn't too far back to the barn, because I have the feeling the riders had to walk it. Wonder if there were any broken bones.
I had something similar happen, although thank goodness not quite *that* close.
In the woods on Ft. Lewis Army base, thousands of acres, hacking alone on my horse when a large deer(elk?) leapt onto the trail what would have been maybe 15 or 20 feet away except that we had strangely levitated about 40 feet farther away. I lost a stirrup but was otherwise good.
Since we were both initially convinced it was a cougar, I was cool with my horse flying out of harm's way. When we realized it was a herbivore, we were slightly less alarmed. The poor deer(elk?) however was freaked out by my horse's neon reflective/glowing quarter sheet and fled.
My horse was quite a bit *up* for the rest of that ride. Not much fun.
This would happen to me...
ReplyDeleteCrazy picture. How can you ever prepare for something like that on the trail. Wow!
